STRATEGY: A Bronx News reporter, David Greene stated the Bronx breaks a one-week record number of 1200 weapons turned in for January 2010.  Not only is weapons possession a growing problem in the Bronx it is also is leading in the highest unemployment rate.  It become a problem and concern for the entire community when it suffers with crime, drugs, poverty, high rates of illiteracy, and poor well-being. ‘Creating Unity in the Community’s purpose is to address these complex issues that affect our lives with health initiatives, civic responsibility, entitlements, and resources. Community networking combines elements of education, marketing, and expectations and appreciation for social responsibility. We will communicate with local residents via local new coverage, radio ads, institutions, employers, schools, churches, community groups, and financial establishments.

The objective is to introduce traditional universal values that all people can identify with.  Our goal is to empower community by offering and the concept of the African Market place is to reach one family and each individual thereof, one-at a time. The African Market place is a key focal point that can engage, support, and serve as a network base of communication to filter resources. It will also provide socio-political issues, exchange of merchandise, and encourage activism to empower our community.  The African Flea Market or Bazaar is the economic foundation in which the community thrives.

‘Creating Unity in the Community’ held the first Kwanzaa celebration in Parkchester, which brought together in sharing health, authors, business, agencies, marketing companies, artisans, vendors, musicians, spoken word and many more. The seven principles Umoja (Unity) – Kujichagulia (Self-Determination) – Ujamma (Cooperative Economics) – Nia (Purpose) – Kuumba (Creativity) – Imani (Faith) can be a welcome map that all cultures to adapt in their everyday lives.

DEVELOPMENT PLAN: For many of us the election of Barack Obama as president of the United States forever changed how many view politics. We all have a deeper sense of accountability, beginning from the bottom up with ordinary people, organizing a grassroots movement of change. The effort to inspire social progression happens when communities unite to stimulate inspirational dialogue reflecting a desire for a common cause and effect.  Greatness starts when we the people become the agent for change.
